WILSONVILLE -- Recruitment for the city's next manager begins today, after councilors met Wednesday to revise the post's job description. Then the Tualatin city council joined Wilsonville's for their first-ever combined meeting that focused on the Basalt Creek Planning area.

Basalt Creek: Councilors from both cities offered many ideas Wednesday about their goals for the planned industrial area that lies between Wilsonville and Tualatin. Many said Wednesday night's meeting marked the beginning of a strong relationship between the neighboring communities.

City manager search:
After councilors offered their final approval to a draft job description Wednesday, a search firm will begin recruiting and interviewing candidates to become the city's next manager.

Chilin Solutions:
The digital display company headquartered in Wilsonville has named Scott Hix, a Wilsonville resident, as its president.

Customer service goal: Today's installment of our week-long feature of council goals and priorities highlights the first step in the councilors' community outreach objective: customer service. Councilman Richard Goddard suggested the city adopt a plan to "more actively recognize the needs of those we are hired to serve."

Within that initiative, Goddard said the first step could be as simple as engaging city employees in conversations about the what is the work they do, and how that ties directly to their customers  Wilsonville residents.

At least one longtime city employee thought Goddard's idea had merit. I cant speak for any city staffers, but I think its a great idea, Mike Kohlhoff, the city's attorney, said.

Scott Starr, another council member, said the outreach could help create "a dynamic between the citizens and this building that's right in the middle of town."

City job openings: The city is currently looking to fill more posts than its vacant city manager spot.
