| Meet Our Staff: Terry Bickhart, sports editor Posted: 05 Mar 2011 09:16 PM PST Job description: Coordinating the direction, priorities, energy and skills of a suddenly ever-changing sports staff in rough economic and job-related times. Oh, and complaint management. Education: Spring-Ford High School, Royersford, Class of 1965, followed by 11/2 years at Ohio University before completing a bachelor of science degree in communications at Temple University in '69. Being a college student during those years was the ultimate trip through history. Work experience: Summer jobs during high school and college included plumber's helper, golf course construction, piece work in a spring factory, state road crew and offering directions and tourist suggestions to travelers on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. All the perfect preparation for what has become a 42-year career at Reading Eagle Company - the first 13 as a reporter, the next 17 as Sunday sports editor and a total of 25 on the motor sports beat, from Daytona to Pomona. Outside interests: Two kids' sports events, although they are nearing the end, which will leave an enormous vacuum after more than 15 years of traveling around the Northeast. Reading, cooking and keeping track of the Villanova and Syracuse bills. Favorites: Book: "The World According to Garp" - or just about anything else by John Irving. Films: Could watch "The Big Chill" and "Pulp Fiction" at the drop of a remote. TV shows: Then, "The Wonder Years," "Cheers" and "Seinfeld"; now, "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" and "Man v. Food." Music: When your 20-year-old son says the moment that had the greatest impact on his life was being introduced to the music of Bob Dylan, and you're the one who did it, do you really have to ask? You might not know: Used to take the train to Reading with mother and younger brother on the day after Thanksgiving to start Christmas shopping.
