Todd Raleigh 'moving on' after NCAA clears UT baseball

A substantial part of Todd Raleigh's job description when he arrived was cleaning up his program off the field.

Despite being pulled into the wide-ranging investigation involving both football and basketball, the Tennessee baseball coach does not appear to have done anything to make the mess he inherited any worse.

According to the initial Letter of Inquiry received on Sept. 10, 2010, the NCAA was looking into possible violations tied to recruiting and extra benefits in the baseball program during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years. But when the Notice of Allegations arrived at UT on Tuesday and was released publicly on Wednesday, there was nothing in it for Raleigh.

So while the other programs prepare a response to the NCAA and ready for a hearing with the Committee on Infractions in June, Raleigh and the Vols can keep their attention on trying to make sure they have games to play then.

"All I can say from my end is we're certainly glad it's over," Raleigh said. "We're ready to put it to bed and start moving on. It was a serious thing for us and the university, and I'm relieved that it's over."

Raleigh has been praised for his work dealing with issues ranging from scholarship limitations to poor grades and a low APR for the Vols, and that apparently won't be compromised by allegations of major violations under his watch.

That leaves him to focus on getting UT back into the postseason for the first time since he was hired. And though concerns about the baseball program have been minimal and weren't even brought up by athletic director Mike Hamilton in the first press conference announcing the investigation, the arrival of official word should eliminate one possible distraction.

"I am relieved," Raleigh said. "But it's not by the fact that I felt we did anything wrong, just that we can now move on."
