| Editorial: Collier School Board's job description and qualification for superintendent Posted: 26 Feb 2011 03:00 PM PST Let's see now. Let's see how this is shaping up. So far the job description being cobbled by the Collier County School Board for the next superintendent seeks candidates who inspire trust, make recommendations and decisions that are data driven, are self-confident and optimistic, display high standards of integrity, possess excellent people skills and are strongly committed to a "students first" philosophy. You can tell this is not the same School Board Collier had in 2007, when Dennis Thompson was brought aboard. Today's board wants something different — someone who leads by example and motivation rather than command and intimidation. Stay tuned, the selection process has a sense of urgency. The deadline for candidates to apply is March 30. They are to be pared by the School Board at a special meeting April 14, with candidates coming for interviews and meetings with the public the following week. Yet, something is missing. There is an opportunity to avoid another mistake. The candidate profile is based on style. While that is important, substance ought to be addressed too. We believe that means goals. Goals ought to outline what is expected and how that will be measured.
