ADDISON, Mich. —

The future job and experience requirements of the Addison Community Schools athletic director position were discussed Monday at the board of education meeting.

Superintendent Eileen Grant-Ball and the board have been developing the job description for the position, which the district is looking to reassign as soon as possible. Matt Day currently holds the position, but has dual responsibilities as athletic director and the district's seventh- through 12-grade principal.

Those responsibilities are more than what Day had prior to his taking on the double role starting in August 2008, Grant-Ball said. He originally took on the assistant principal duties of overseeing grades seven and eight, but when the high school was reconfigured in 2009 as a junior/senior high school, that role was expanded to include grades nine through 12.

"He has a lot on his plate right now and his job was more manageable as a 9-12 assistant principal," Grant-Ball said.

Questions arose Monday as to what role the athletic director may have in the district's upcoming community fitness center, scheduled to be built starting in May. The board and administration is also considering its options on how the recreation center — part of a $19.99 million campus improvement project to be completed by October 2012 — will be staffed. The board also discussed the requirements of the job position, including academic degree and related experience.

The matter is expected to be discussed further at the Dec. 13 board meeting. Applications will likely be accepted after that meeting.

Grant-Ball also reported two applicants submitted resumes for the vacant transportation director and lead mechanic position. The superintendent invited members of the board to be part of the upcoming screening process. The transportation director position was held by Brian Wisdom for less than two months before he resigned Nov. 8.
