Photo by Peter McIntosh. After being in the role for 20 years, his duties have expanded beyond cleaning the pool and mowing the lawns. "I feel like a part of the family of the school," he said. The children and teachers appreciate him so much, they nominated him for a Keep Dunedin Beautiful award, which he won. Year 6 pupils put together a DVD which included a song they wrote about him and pictures of him at work. Their teacher Glenda Thomas said he was "fabulous" and deserved to win. Mr Rodriguez felt honoured to have his hard work and school pride recognised. "I love my job. It's important for me that the school looks nice." Keep Dunedin Beautiful co-ordinator Darlene Thomson said the award was about bringing the work caretakers did to pupils' attention, and encouraging them to take more responsibility for their environment. - ellie.constantine@odt.co.nz
