As a result of current and anticipated expansion of our client's business in North America, we are seeking a bright and ambitious Reservoir Engineer to join the team to support the international energy investment banking businesses.

You will be directly involved in assessing new business transactions (including senior and mezzanine finance, equity investments and derivatives trading) in relation to our upstream energy businesses. You will manage/execute commercial and financial due diligence and work closely with technical advisors and Group executives to achieve efficient and effective processing of transactions in a high deal flow environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Have direct involvement in the assessment of new and reviewing existing business transactions (including senior and mezzanine, project and corporate finance, equity investments and derivatives trading)
  • Work independently to complete credit analysis of oil and gas counterparties, corporate clients, and producers to determine appropriate exposure limits by completing technical and commercial due diligence
  • Engineering responsibilities include utilization of Phdwin and Aries software to forecast reserves, analysis of operating expenses and capital budgets, evaluation of third party reserve reports, assessment of reasonableness of production forecasts based on available data (may include production data, well logs, maps, seismic (in house geologist reviews, etc), formulation of downside reserves case, review of existing and/or proposed operations including environmental issues, assessment of development programs and associated economics, estimation of reasonable hedge volumes, and calculation of appropriate differentials
  • Commercial responsibilities include reviewing agreements, terms of loans, gas/oil marketing agreements, corporate and organizational structure, market and operational aspects (including pricing, relevant contracts, due diligence of financial model), working with legal group on credit agreement and associated documents
  • Manage and execute due diligence, including financial outcomes of technical due diligence, commercial risk, industry analysis, country risk, financial risk and other counterparty-related risk
  • Partner with businesses on transactions, working closely with the deal team to problem solve and structure to achieve efficient and effective processing of transactions in a high deal flow environment
  • Manage and provide professional on the job training to junior engineers/analysts
  • Communicate technical and commercial  analysis to approvers and senior management

KEY EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Strong academic credentials including tertiary qualifications in Petroleum Engineering (additional financial qualifications such as an MBA would be advantageous)
  • 7 - 10 years sound technical reservoir engineering experience gained from the oil and gas industry
  • Previous experience in assessing credit risk associated with oil and gas project finance and derivatives transactions would be advantageous
  • Well developed analytical skills, attention to detail, sound judgment and a well developed sense of materiality
  • Financial modelling experience
  • Sound written and oral communication skills
  • Good relationship and persuasion skills
  • Experience with reviewing acquisition / lending / project documents

This opportunity would ideally suit a commercially focused reservoir engineer who is seeking to build on their strong reservoir engineering skills and gain exposure and take an active lead in the reviewing the commercial aspects of Macquarie's oil & gas financing and derivatives businesses.  The ideal candidate is someone who is seeking the opportunity to play a high profile role in the evaluation of upstream energy exposures within Macquarie.
