Fire board crafts new job description for chief

FORT MOHAVE — When the Fort Mojave Mesa Fire board selects a new fire chief, he or she will be working under a new job description.

The job description, approved Thursday night, will help the fire board select a new chief based on the recommendation of outside consulting firm Human Resources Strategies, LLC.

The vote was 3-0, with board members Barbie Barrett and Dana Scudder absent.

Board Chairman Robert Elliott said HRS intends to have the position posted around the first of November and plans to initially open the search to the Western states rather than taking the search nationally.

Elliott said some of the changes made to the job description include the education requirement and the salary range, which was approved at $80,000 to $100,000.

Two items on the agenda for discussion only received little discussion other than for Elliott to explain the board would discuss and take action on them during the November meeting. The items included a reduction in the firefighter's portion of their retirements and discontinuing paying for the firefighter's uniform allowance.
