| Letter: Being Watertown's Food Pantry director is hard work Posted: 12 Aug 2010 05:14 PM PDT It is a shame that Debbie Kaup has given her notice as head of the Watertown Food Pantry. I don't think the Town of Watertown knows or appreciates the dedication, extra time and hard effort that she has given over the years to help countless Watertown families. In reading the job description on the town TV channel, I see that they list the work at 17 hours a week. In order to handle the job, it calls for more than twice that. Besides the two days the food pantry is open, there are the food orders that have to be made up, deliveries have to be put away, clean up and trash recycling to be put out and records and statistics to be kept. Because of her knowledge of all the Watertown agencies, Debbie is able to assist and direct needy families in many ways. When the Food Pantry's distributor went out of business a few months ago, Debbie worked long and hard to find a replacement. To carry us over, she was going to BJ's (Wholesale Club) herself to try to fill in the gaps so families would not have to go without. Debbie's devotion carries over to the myriad of school children who have collected food for the pantry. When the school class delivers the food to the pantry, she explains how the pantry is run and why. Think of the awareness that all these children now have about the problems of the less fortunate. The volunteers all wish the best for the Debbie and the Food Pantry. Thanks for letting us bring this issue to the attention of the wonderful community of Watertown.
