| EMA position questioned at Lauderdale County Commission meeting Posted: 26 Jul 2010 04:44 PM PDT FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - An argument over a job description led to a very tense Lauderdale County Commission meeting on Monday. The discussion centered on Lauderdale County EMA Director George Grabryan and his position. "In my opinion there is some ambiguous language there are some terms that need to be more clearly defined," said Commissioner Rhea Fulmer. She said part of the problem was Grabryan was able to assist and help draw up his new proposed duties. "It should be ok maybe to have input into your job description, but in my opinion it is absolutely wrong for someone to sit down and have a job description written around them," said Fulmer. The commission had several attorneys' look at the new proposal and make sure it didn't violate Alabama state law, but two commissioners raised concerns that it gave Grabryan more power than he's allowed to have and could completely alter who's in charge of emergency situations in the county in the future. "We have to have in that job description the words that will enable the director to actually help the responders do their job not prevent them from doing it," said Fulmer. Grabryan was out of town for the meeting. The commission is expected to bring up the topic again at its next meeting in August. ©2010 WAFF. All rights reserved.
