Job description: My biggest jobs are covering general education issues and the Reading School District. I also cover the Fleetwood and Gov. Mifflin school districts and the municipalities within them. Like all metro reporters I fill in covering breaking news like fires, crimes and just about anything else.

Education: I graduated from Manheim Township High School in Lancaster County before earning a degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland.

Work experience: I started writing as a way to make a few extra bucks in college. I did freelance work for my college newspaper and the local weekly newspaper, the Prince George County Gazette. After college, I moved home to Lancaster and began doing freelance work for the Lancaster New Era while attending Millersville University. I planned to earn my teaching certification and head off to the classroom but found journalism pulling me in another direction. My first full-time job was with the Lebanon Daily News, where I worked until I started with the Eagle in 2007.

Outside interests: My fiancee, Karen, and I love the outdoors. We try to head off to the mountains for a little camping and hiking as much as possible, though it never seems like quite enough. I am an avid sports fan, born and bred to support all the Philadelphia teams.

Favorites: My favorite authors include David Eggers, Chuck Palahniuk, John Irving and Truman Capote. My CD collection includes everything from Johnny Cash to Jay-Z to the Rolling Stones to Vampire Weekend. My all-time favorite television shows were "The West Wing" and "Freaks and Geeks." I also love the movies and am a big fan of the Coen brothers.

You might not know: I once spent a summer as a mountain bike instructor at a camp in southern Virginia.
